My great grandmother
Thelma Kench
The year was 1932 my great grandmother
Thelma Kench was representing New Zealand as an olympic runner, It had been her dream all her life.
When the time came she and 19 olympic men boarded a massive triple level ship. My great grandmother was the only women on board, it took her nearly 2 weeks. Once she got to her destination, Los Angeles there were a lot of athletes such as shot putters, rowers, cyclist and swimmers, but it was the couple of runners is what she needed to look out for.
Just then my grandmother her a noise over the speaker “runners, runners will you please get to track 37 for your race thank you” she took a breath in and out slowly then said “that's me” so off she went with a flock of butterflies in her stomach then she heard it again “ Kench I repeat Miss Thelma Kench please make your way to your lane thank you “
She hurried over to her lane. Everything was silent she could here her own heart thumping rapidly.
“ ON YOUR MARKS, SET “BANG !
She heard the gunfire and sprinted like anything. The crowd went wild, she could hear the wind passing her ears, she could she the finish line ahead then before she knew it, she past it . she turned around then she realised…
SHE WON!!!
She couldn't believe it. She was on her way to the podium, then the gold medal got placed around her neck.
She looked up to the crowed and they clapped for her like she had never been clapped for before .
The end
